(Saint Lucia Daily Post – February 3, 2025) – The St. Lucia Sports Academy will see the culmination of its Inter-house championships on Tuesday February 4th at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground. The academy which boasts a number of the island’s top juvenile athletes has three houses named after some of St. Lucia’s greatest sporting icons.
Sammy (yellow house) is named after double T20 World Cup winning captain and current West Indies coach of all formats, Daren Sammy. Spencer (blue house) is named after former Olympian and record Sports Woman of the year recipient Lavern Spencer and Jean (white house) is named after record goal scorer for St. Lucia and former professional footballer Earl ‘Ballhog” Jean.
The Academy’s principal Mrs. Delia Charles urges the family members of students and the wider public to come out and show their support for the athletes. She says the house presentations held on Monday February 3, 2025, help to build in team spirit and create a vibe going into the track meet which will see the culmination of the championships.
After the field events, volleyball, football, cricket, netball and the road race, the point standings are as follows. Sammy house in 1st place with 267, followed by spencer with 254 and back to back defending champions Jean house in the cellar position on 216. Jean house will be buoyed by winning the house presentations. Will they 3-peat?
