Multiple individuals have been taken into custody following the discovery of a substantial quantity of cannabis resin in a shipment at Port Vieux Fort on Friday. Customs officials, working alongside the newly established Gang, Narcotics, and Firearms Unit (GNFU), conducted a detailed inspection of the consignment, uncovering the illicit substance with an estimated street value of approximately $70,000.
This incident marks the third such discovery at Port Vieux Fort, raising concerns and sparking debate about the efficacy of border security measures on the island. Recently, a similar find involved cannabis resin camouflaged within a shipment of orange juice originating from Canada. Such patterns point towards an emerging trend and challenge that law enforcement officials are attempting to curb.
Although several arrests have been made, it remains uncertain if formal charges will be brought against the individuals detained.
