UK Infant Dies After Resort Fall in Saint Lucia: Coroner Seeks Answers Amid Ongoing Investigations

Must Read

A seven-month-old baby from the UK has died at a medical facility in Saint Lucia during a medical procedure, prompting British authorities to call on Saint Lucian officials for further information.

According to UK media reports on April 14th, baby Tommy Taylor-McLean, from Upminster in East London, passed away on April 2nd following complications from a brain injury allegedly sustained after falling from a bed at a resort on the island. The incident occurred on March 1st, just hours after the family had checked in for their holiday.

Tommy was initially taken to the hotel’s physician, who checked him thoroughly and advised that he be taken to a nearby medical facility for further treatment and assessment, where he later died.

Reports suggest the infant suffered a brain bleed as a result of the fall.

Following the immediate return of his body to the UK, an inquest into his death was opened in Walthamstow on Wednesday, April 9th.

Senior Coroner Graeme Irvine is now appealing to the UK Foreign Office for assistance in obtaining evidence from Saint Lucian authorities, noting that coroners in England and Wales have limited jurisdiction to access documents from overseas.

The resort where the incident took place has denied any wrongdoing but confirmed that the baby did fall and was transported to hospital in stable condition.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death are ongoing in both the UK and Saint Lucia.

Attempts to contact the medical facility and the Ministry of Health officials on the matter proved unsuccessful.
