St. Vincent and the Grenadines bounced back from a heavy opening loss to Dominica with a determined 34-run win over Saint Lucia in the 2025 WINLOTT WICB Under-19 Cricket Championships at the Tanteen Recreational Ground in Grenada.
After electing to bat on a dry pitch, the Vincentians lost an early wicket at 11 but recovered through a 68-run stand between Damali Phillips (45) and Javon Richardson (25). A collapse followed, triggered by the leg-spinning duo of Cody Fontenelle and Isaiah Jones, who combined for seven wickets. At 123 for 9, Saint Lucia appeared in control.
However, Devontae MacDowall launched a late onslaught, scoring a blistering 74 off 59 balls with 11 fours and two sixes, propelling his team to 201 all out in 47.1 overs. Fontenelle led the bowling with 4 for 26, Jones chipped in with 3 for 38, and Darvin Forde took 2 for 27.
In reply, Saint Lucia’s chase never fully ignited. A 64-run partnership between Khan Elcock and Jonathan Daniel offered hope, but consistent wicket losses derailed the innings. They were eventually bowled out for 167.
Watson Seaton (3 for 23), Kevin Joseph (3 for 30), and captain Kodi Grant (3 for 31) led the Vincentian bowling attack, with MacDowall also grabbing a key wicket. His match-winning all-round performance earned him the Winlott Man of the Match award.
Saint Lucia will now seek to regroup, while St. Vincent and the Grenadines aim to carry this momentum forward in the tournament.
