Thick black smoke was seen billowing from the Rodney Bay Boatyard near the Fisheries Complex on Monday afternoon, after a boat and a nearby container caught fire.

Firefighters from the Gros Islet Fire Station responded promptly to the scene in an effort to control and extinguish the blaze. The fire drew the attention of several motorists and pedestrians in the island’s north.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that the fire may have originated from a nearby bush fire which then spread to the boatyard, igniting the vessel and container.
Firefighters remain on the scene. No further details have been confirmed at this time.
