Castries, St. Lucia – The President of the Police Welfare Association (PWA), Cameron Laure, has strongly condemned the government’s latest wage proposal for police officers, describing it as “disrespectful and inadequate.”
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Daily Post, Laure expressed deep dissatisfaction with the proposed $150 salary increase, arguing that it fails to reflect the immense sacrifices and long hours officers dedicate to maintaining law and order.
“Our officers work more than ninety hours a week, often sacrificing family time, personal well-being, and their own safety,” Laure asserted. “Yet, they are being offered a mere $150 increase. That is an insult to the level of commitment and risk they take every day.”
Laure, who was overwhelmingly elected by police officers to represent their interests, dismissed critics questioning his leadership, insisting that no one is more committed to advocating for their welfare than he is.
He called on the government to adopt a more meaningful approach to wage negotiations, warning that inadequate compensation could demoralize officers and compromise national security.
“If the government continues to disregard the well-being of our police officers, it will lead to growing dissatisfaction within the force, ultimately affecting the quality of service to the public,” he cautioned.
The PWA president urged authorities to reconsider their stance, emphasizing that fair wages are essential to maintaining an effective and motivated police force.
