In a historic move to celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the Ministry of Home Affairs, Crime Prevention, and Persons with Disabilities will host its first-ever event dedicated to honoring the contributions and achievements of individuals with disabilities.
The event, set to take place at the historic Derek Walcott Square, will feature a formal ceremony, a mini-concert, and an expo highlighting goods and services within the disability sector. According to Hon. Jeremiah Norbert, Minister for Persons with Disabilities, this initiative underscores the administration’s commitment to inclusivity and creating opportunities for all.
“We believe that showcasing the accomplishments of persons with disabilities is critical to breaking stereotypes and fostering a more inclusive society,” said Hon. Norbert. “This event is a testament to the Philip J. Pierre administration’s dedication to ensuring that every citizen, regardless of ability, has a voice and a platform to thrive.”
The event will include live performances by renowned artists such as Rosemond “The Senator” Clery, former Calypso Monarch Dezral, Niki “Alley Cat” Edmunds, and Kevin “De Chairman” Jn Baptiste. These celebrated performers are expected to bring vibrancy and excitement to the day’s festivities.
The expo will provide an opportunity for attendees to learn about the various goods, services, and initiatives that empower individuals with disabilities, while the concert promises an uplifting celebration of talent and resilience.
This historic event is expected to attract citizens from all walks of life, serving as a powerful reminder of the value of inclusion and the extraordinary contributions of persons with disabilities to society.
